East Brunswick football team played with a lot of heart despite having to play against a much stronger team. The Bears moved the ball strongly in their first drive and had a couple of tries inside the ‘Red Zone’ to score against South Brunswick but came up short. South Brunswick then took over on the 20 and on the second offensive play of the game for the Vikings, Amir Johnson threw a pass to Wendell Allen who romped 79 yards to jump out to a 7-0 lead. On the next drive East Brunswick was not able to move the ball and the Vikings Dontae Strickland was completely unstoppable – racking up 178 yards on just 7 carries. The Vikings were up 32-0 at the half. In the second half, South Brunswick mercifully rested many of their starters and East Brunswick faired much better. South Brunswick still scored first padding the lead to 39-0. The Bears then mounted a nice drive capped off by a long run by Kevin Hemmings for a touchdown. The defense then caused a turnover getting East Brunswick the ball back deep in Viking territory. East Brunswick quickly drove down to the 1 yard line, but from there it took 3 plays to finally punch it in. After the kick by Alex Boyko the score was 39-14 which turned out to be the final score.
