The East Brunswick Friends of the Library will begin a month long membership drive Jan. 1. The Friends group has been a supporter of the library for more than 30 years, providing funds beyond the capabilities of the library budget as well as a wide variety of library programming.

This year, the Friends donated money for the construction of three small rooms to be used by community groups, business people, students and more. In addition, the group funds all children’s programs including the TLC program, and prizes for youth and teenservices programs including the summer reading program. It also sponsors the Meet the Author series, the Saturday Stitch, programs such as the Makhelat HaMercaz Jewish Choir of Central New Jersey, the annual Phyllis Noar Puppetry Festival and programs on science, art and more.

In 2014, the Friends again paid the licensing fees for the library’s film festivals and screenings, funded adult discussion groups, provided defensive-driving courses and more.

Cost is $15 to become a Friends member, $25 to become a supporter, $50 to be a contributor, $100 to be a patron. Membership dues go to support children’s and adult programming at the library.
