The East Brunswick High School girls varsity tennis team had a stellar season in 2022, finishing with a record of 14 wins and 1 loss. The team was led by Coach Debbie Mangino and featured some amazing players, such as Anagha Shankar, who was named the Athlete of the Month in May and the First Team All-GMC. She also qualified for the state singles and doubles tournaments.

The team started the season with four consecutive wins against South Brunswick, Edison Magnet, Monroe and Old Bridge. They then participated in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament, where they won all three flights and claimed the title for the second year in a row. They defeated J.P. Stevens in the final round, with Shankar winning the first singles in three sets.

The team also played in the NJSIAA Tournament, where they advanced to the semifinal round of Central Jersey Group 4 but lost to Marlboro. They had a strong performance in the quarterfinal round, defeating Freehold Township with a 4-1 win.

The team showed their excellence and sportsmanship throughout the season, making their school and community proud. They displayed their passion and dedication for the sport of tennis, and we look forward to seeing what they will accomplish next season.

What to Watch for in 2023

The East Brunswick High School girls varsity tennis team is poised for another great season in 2023. The team returns many of its top players, including Anagha Shankar. They will also be joined by some talented newcomers, who will add depth and experience to the team.

The team’s goals for the 2023 season are to win the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament for the third year in a row and to advance to the state finals. With their talent and determination, the East Brunswick girls tennis team is well on their way to achieving these goals.
